I made a thing…because this Saturday is Marissa Alexander’s 33rd birthday is coming up and she’ll have to spend it behind bars like many other birthday’s unless the people demand she be released.
I’m tired of women who have been abused [either raped or beaten] being re-victimized by the system. It’s time for people to come together and demand immediate changes so victims can stop being thrown behind bars for defending themselves [see CeCe McDonald also]. ESPECIALLY women of color victims! As a fellow woman of color and as a fellow survivor I can not stand idle and watch my sisters be punished for defending themselves!
This Saturday September 14th, is Marissa’s birthday and a ton of groups are calling for protests to happen at courthouses, city halls, jails etc.
I organized a protest in Sacramento,CA where I live at 501 I Street the Robert Matsui Federal Courthouse. Below is a list of other events happening on Saturday to honor Marissa, her courage in defending herself and demanding for her release as well as the fair treatment of all victims who stand up against their attackers! EVERYONE MUST COME TOGETHER TO END THE JAILING OF VICTIMS FOR PROTECTING THEIR RIGHT TO LIVE!
